Getting a Haircut

Contrary to the title of this blog, I am not getting a haircut. This is due to the many bad haircuts that I've had in the past. 99% of these bad haircuts happened when I went to a new barber. Since my last bad haircut, I've learned my lesson. As of right now, I have decided to not go to any barber but my own in my hometown.
However, because I'm so far from home, it's been over 3 months since I've had a haircut. This leads me to ask the questions: How much longer can I wait? At what point does the bad shaggy look of my hair outweigh the risk of a bad haircut? Other factors need to be considered.
First of all, this is college. I'm focused on school and wrestling. I'm not really trying to impress anyone. Does that fact contribute to the haircut or no haircut argument? I'm not sure. Secondly, it will be beanie and hoodie weather soon. A beanie will completely cover my head, whether my hair is long or not. Finally, how will the length of my hair affect my wrestling? So far, it barely gets in my eyes, but as it gets longer this may be an issue. If worse comes to worst, I can push my hair behind my headgear like a headband, but this might look pretty dumb.
After doing a cost benefit analysis of the situation, I've decided to leave my hair the way it is. I'll embrace the length and deal with it as it grows. This is unless I take the 3rd option and buzz my head myself. This might happen anyway if a bet doesn't go my way. A throwback to my last buzz cut is below for reference along with some other phases my hairs been through.

  1. I understand not trusting barbers when they have given you a bad haircut. I remember I went to a new barber, they had gave me the worst haircut I have ever seen. However, in your situation, do some research on a haircut you want and try a new barber. I heard that there was a good barber in Naperville when my friend game me a tour. If the barber doesn't give you a good hair cut, go buzz. Your buzz cut in the last picture looked pretty good in my opinion.

  2. I've learned my lesson going to chain barbers like Great Clips (it wasn't great) but at some point haircuts need to happen or else we look ridiculous. It's a hard decision to make sometimes and a tremendous risk which is why I hope I find the right barber sooner rather than later. -nick zaimins

  3. Trusting a new barber is a really hard thing to do. Taking it from a guy who loves his hair, I only go to my hometown barber who's never let me down. If your hair is getting in way of your eyes or even face in general, possibly styling it a different way could make to where it's not bothering you.

Naps Rational Argument

Since developing my thesis that naps are good, I've finished my first rough draft. Although I put it off a long time, the actual writing process has been fairly easy. I think this is due to the fact that I have a strong interest in my topic and I'm somewhat passionate about proving that naps are beneficial.       My will to prove that naps are good is mostly because of how personal they are to me. I take a nap most days. This makes my argument partially biased, but I don't think that's a bad thing. My positive experience taking naps contributes greatly to my argument because it appeals to, ethos and pathos. I have credibility because I personally take naps. I also appeal to emotion because I know how it feels when I need to take a nap and how much better I feel afterwards. In order to appeal more to logos, I found multiple studies on the topic.      It hasn't been hard to find studies and articles backing my claim that naps are beneficial, which may point to the

Naps Are Good

In class today, I spent a lot of time doing research and developed a thesis for my rational argument essay. I decided to to only focus on the benefits of naps, rather than discussing any controversy. My thesis states: Contrary to what many people think, naps can be very beneficial if done the right way.  I decided to only focus on the positive side of naps after having a long conversation with Dr. Kyburz. While talking, I discovered that I really enjoy naps. I take a nap almost every day, and they are usually good. Because of this, it will be much easier to argue for the benefits of napping rather than arguing both sides.  My argument will be much more genuine, making it more enjoyable to write and read. I will also be able to get deeper into the topic because I'm only arguing one side. For each source I quote, I will have a deep dive into how in contributes to my thesis. I will also discuss some challenges with naps, but I'll write about them as challenges to overcome in orde

Credible Sources

During our CARD class yesterday, we went to the library for a presentation. We learned where we can find sources, which ones we should use, and how to cite them. After this class period, I felt a lot better about choosing which sources I should use for my final essay. The essay is due in December, but in order to have a well structured and in-depth paper, I need to start finding credible sources now. Our first option for sources is provided by the North Central library. All students can go to the library website ( here ) and find a menu offering multiple options for research. From that menu, we can search for journals, articles, books, and other references. There are thousands of sources already available, but if we can't find what we need for our topic, we can request more sources. This will be extremely helpful for my essay.  When choosing a source, it's important to determine which ones are credible. Credible sources need to come from a trustworthy study. Studies that we ca
