Last week, we got the prompt for our final essay in CARD 101. This essay will be a rational argument, and is due at the end of the semester. Because of the late due date, I've spent most of my time brainstorming ideas that will be the most interesting and fulfilling to me.
This essay is a lot like the microtheme that we wrote, but instead of one page, we are to write 4-7 pages. This is because we will be using sources to back up our arguments. Similar to the microtheme, we will be discussing both sides of the argument, however, the sources will make more of an appeal to reason and credibility.
I wrote my microtheme about procrastination. There are definitely pros and cons to procrastinating, so the topic worked well for my microtheme and I have the option to write about it for my rational argument as well. This could be interesting, but other students in the class are already writing about procrastination, so I want to be original. Although the microtheme gave me experience creating a rational argument, I'm going to write about a new topic.
Something that has peaked my interest lately is naps. As you might assume, this is because I've been taking a lot of naps. A lot of times, I enjoy napping, but personally, I'm still unsure whether naps are good for me or not. Sometimes a nap seems like the best option, but other times, it would be better to power through and drink a coffee. I think this is what makes it a good topic for my essay. I can see both sides of the argument. My next step is to find sources for each side and start writing.
It's okay to have a different topic than what you originally had in your Micro theme paper. I was also thinking about doing procrastination but, ultimately decided to do the rational argument on the benefits to swearing.
